STATEMENT: Update on the Allegations of Fraud and Corruption on SJC Senior Staff Member
The Social Justice Coalition (SJC) is a movement led by and founded on values of transparency, accountability and justice. The SJC has over the years taken pride in its work against state corruption and mismanagement of state funds that has resulted in communities being unable to receive adequate services. As such, the SJC notes the allegations labelled against Mr Klaas in the Ground-Up article published on 23 June 2022.
In light of the serious allegations against Mr Xolani Klaas, the General Manager of the SJC, the newly constituted Board of the SJC has taken the decision to suspend Mr Klaas with immediate effect. In addition to the suspension, the SJC Board has taken the decision to launch a third party, independent investigation over the allegations labelled against Mr Klaas.
Further steps will be taken once the investigation has been completed.
Above and beyond the decisions taken by the Board, the SJC wishes to distance itself from any comments made by Mr Klaas in the media since the publication of the article. The SJC strongly condemns any corruption and misuse of funds intended to benefit SJC programme work. We take any allegation of such, seriously. The SJC believes in its integrity as an organisation and will allow due process to take place.
We stand firm in our commitment to see this through and remain committed to our work in the community. We understand that our communities are worst affected by this and we bow our heads in shame and we hope that with time, we will be able to put in place systems that will make sure that transparency remains.
