Makhaza Branch of the Social Justice Coalition (SJC) would like to invite all stakeholders around Makhaza to participate in a protest for the closure of Osawa’s tavern. It is our firm view that Osawa’s licence should be revoked.
As has been reported in the media, eight young women tragically died when a steel railing collapsed at the tavern. They youngest was just 15 and the oldest 23.

Date: Monday 6 July 2015
Time: 10h00
Departure Point: Somerset Taxi Rank, Makhaza
From the N2 take the Baden Powell turnoff
Take your 1st right onto Lansdowne/Jeff Masemola Road
The taxi rank will be on your right hand side
The march will proceed to the SAPS Harare Police Station and a memorandum will be submitted to the police.
The management of the tavern should have taken precautionary steps to ensure the safety of all the customers. The Osawa Tavern allowed children under the age of 18 to drink in the tavern. This is unethical business practice. The tavern also closes in the early hours of the morning, as late as 04h30. This is also against liquor license terms and conditions.
We request your organisation to support our protest and call for Osawa Tavern’s licence to be revoked.
Members of the media are welcome to attend.
