Court judgment to impact on the relationship between the South African Police Service and Community Police Forums
On Friday 23 September 2016 a judgment that will have bearing on the ability of communities to hold the South African Police Service accountable will be handed down.
At 9h30 tomorrow in the Equality Court (sitting at the Western Cape High Court , court 11) Judge Boqwana will deliver her judgment on the right of the Nyanga Community Police Forum to intervene as an applicant in a case currently before the courts regarding how police resources are allocated to communities.
Nyanga consistently records some of the highest incidents of serious crimes including murder and sexual assault in South Africa. It is also severely under-resourced.
The main police resourcing case, which the CPF is seeking to join, was launched in March 2016 by the SJC and EE.
The SJC and Nyanga CPF will be holding a press conference after the judgment. All media are invited.
Date: 23 September
Time: 12h00
Venue: Ndifuna Ukwazi offices, 3rd Floor, 47 on Strand, Strand Street
